14 Things Every Successful Person Has In Common

I was reading through the internet and I stumbled upon this article on successful people so I thought it wise to post it on my blog since we'all wanna be successful.

1. They know when to stay and when to leave.

Successful people know exactly when they should
change employers, start a company or fold their
company. They have good intuition and aren’t
afraid to make hard choices, despite opposing
forces.

2. They do more than what’s asked of them.

They view their job descriptions as just the
beginning of what they can do with their job.
After they’ve completed their mandatory tasks,
they will always ask to take on more projects that
challenge them. They are even willing to take on
the tedious work that no one else wants to do in
order to be a team player.

3. They are willing to fail in order to
eventually succeed

All successful people know
that it doesn’t come easy and they are bound to
fail more than they will succeed at anything. They
are willing to learn from each failure, as it will
help them make better decisions that lead to
success later. While many people give up after
failing at something, a successful person will
persevere.

4. They know that they make their own luck.

Luck is derived from hard work over time and
positioning yourself for success. You won’t
randomly get lucky and successful people know
that. They will do at least one thing every single
day to put themselves in a better position to get
lucky and then use that luck to grow.

5. They set real goals that they can accomplish.

successful people wake up and they’ve already
planned their day, while unsuccessful people are
scrambling to figure out what they need to do
next. Their goals are very focused, big yet
obtainable and are aligned to their strengths.
They know what they are capable of and will
invest all of their efforts in it, avoiding their
weaknesses.

6. They take accountability for themselves and
their actions.

They aren’t relying on other people
in order to get the job done. Instead, they are
looking inwards and are trying to find the
solutions, while leveraging their current assets. If
they make a mistake, they own up to it and
immediately think of ways that they can improve
next time, not making the same mistake twice.

7. They make change instead of being affected
by it.

Successful people aren’t waiting around to
be affected by economic trends. They are the
ones who are creating the trends and making
things happen.

8. They are able to adjust to changes in the
marketplace.

 Successful people are willing to
reinvent themselves to stay relevant in the
business world. They understand that if you stay
stagnant and ignore trends, that you will be left
behind. They are constantly coming up with new
ideas, searching for the next big thing and getting
new skills.

9. They can communicate their story
effectively.

If you walk up to a successful person
and ask them what they do, they will able to tell
you everything in a concise manner. They know
who they are, what they do and can make you
believe in them. They have strong posture and
are very persuasive and confident.

10. They ask the right questions to the people
who can deliver the right answers.

 Successful
people know they need to solve problems by
tapping their networks. They aren’t afraid of
emailing or calling the best person who can
answer their questions. They are always prepared
with the right questions and are always willing to
help the other person out in return.

11. They are life-long learners who push
themselves out of their comfort zones.

 While
most people think that when they graduate
college, they are finished being a student,
successful people remain students. They are
constantly learning new things and have new
experiences. They aren’t afraid to try new
activities and to fail at them.

12. They know who they are and their place in
the world.

 Successful people are confident and
can lead themselves, as well as others. They have
their own vision and mission and seek to bring it
to life on a daily basis. They also know who they
aren’t and don’t waste time on things that they
aren’t good at or they aren’t satisfied with.

13. They are more excited about the journey
than the pay out.

 Successful people ignore get
rich quick schemes. They are more focused on
building sustainable careers through hard work,
risk taking and creativity. They enjoy the journey,
despite the obstacles, because they are doing
something that has meaning in their lives.

14. They create instead of just consume.

 While
most people are busy reading emails, watching
TV or listening to a podcast, successful people
are creating new tools, presentations and coming
up with ideas. They are the ones who are making
things that other people need instead of being on
the other end of the spectrum, consuming them.

The morning tide

You guys prolly heard of this story before but am sure not all of you. Please read...

There was a man taking a morning walk at or the
beach. He saw that along with the morning tide
came hundreds of starfish and when the tide
receded, they were left behind and with the
morning sun rays, they would die. The tide was
fresh and the starfish were alive. The man took a
few steps, picked one and threw it into the water.
He did that repeatedly. Right behind him there
was another person who couldn't understand
what this man was doing. He caught up with him
and asked, "What are you doing? There are
hundreds of starfish. How many can you help?
What difference does it make?" This man did not
reply, took two more steps, picked up another
one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a
difference to this one."
What difference are we making? Big or small, it
does not matter. If everyone made a small
difference, we'd end up with a big difference,
wouldn't we?

Setting Technology Goals for the New Year

New Year's Day is traditionally the time
when we look back on the past 12 months
and make resolutions for the next 12. If
you're looking to set a goal for yourself
professionally, why not focus on technology
integration? This year, think of an area
where you can grow!
Here are a few ideas of where to
concentrate your energy as you make
technology goals for the upcoming year.
Choose a New Tool Each Month
Whether you have one laptop or a class set
of tablets, there are tons of educational
technology tools to explore. Choose one
new tool to try out each month. This will
give you enough time to really see if it
works with your teaching style and if it is
relevant to the content you're teaching. If
you love it, add it to your technology tool
belt and keep using it for the rest of the
year. If it's not for you, at the end of the
month move on to the next one.
Join a Twitter Chat
All around the globe, educators are doing
exciting work in their classrooms. Instead
of just following a couple of your favorite
teachers and education organizations,
engage with your peers in a Twitter chat.
There are weekly chats on a wide range of
subjects. Follow the hashtag to read about
what other people are saying and post your
own answers to questions posed by the
chat's facilitator. You're sure to leave with
ideas and inspiration to take back to your
classroom.
Host a Google Hangout
Even if you just try it out with family first,
host a Google Hangout to connect your
computer screen with friends from around
the country. Once you're comfortable, try
using this tool for virtual office hours, in
place of committee meetings, or to connect
with former colleagues and alumni.
Use Your Phone
This year I've shared some of my favorite
technology tools that you can use straight
from a smartphone. If you're
uncomfortable using your phone during
instructional time, consider it as a handheld
device for entering grades, updating a class
blog, or scrolling through tweets when
you're on the go. A smartphone can be
used as a classroom and time management
tool.
Check Out Pinterest
Pinterest is a fantastic resource for
teachers! It's a place where educators can
gather ideas for organizing their classroom,
develop engaging activities and just get
excited about teaching. This year, set
yourself a goal of trying two new ideas a
month that you've found on Pinterest.
Instead of just bookmarking your favorites,
commit to putting these great ideas into
action.
Try Skype
It's so important to open students' eyes to
the world around them. If the days of pen
pals are long gone in your classroom, why
not find another class to Skype with?
Whether they're down the block, across the
country, or five time zones away, connect
with a class in a different community.

Aaua Administration, 2009 Agreement And The Place Of Half Truths By Busuyi Mekusi

By Busuyi Mekusi
In our earlier piece we tried to expose how the Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, tried to repudiate the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement even though he was very much aware that State Universities were part of the processes that birthed the Agreement. This is more so as the University Council adopted the Agreement in 2010, with the commencement of the salary component that also attracted the payment of arrears. The AAUA branch of ASUU has also had reasons to commend the University Council and Administration for this initiative at different times. The Union in AAUA has also made efforts to encourage Council and Administration to attend to the other components in order to prevent internally induced brain drain.
The Vice Chancellor of AAUA has consistently told both willing and unwilling members of the public that the AAUA is either ahead of other Universities or, at times, specifically Federal Universities as far as the implementation of the 2009 Agreement is concerned. The advancement laid claim to by the VC, I am very sure, is in relation to the payment of N15, (Fifteen thousand naira) only as Research Enhancement Allowance per month. The payment of this money came at a time when certain State Universities were paying N30, 000 (Thirty thousand naira) only as Hazard Allowance, and other sister Unions in AAUA also demanded for this.
Suffice it to place on record that while ASUU-AAUA did not at any time demand for the payment of Hazard Allowance to his members, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi N. Mimiko, made frantic efforts to discredit the local branch as he wrote to the President of ASUU that the Chairperson was going to create crisis as a result of his unwillingness to pay Hazard Allowance. It is noteworthy that this lie was later exposed. It is also important to point out that the Research Enhancement Allowance was paid when academic members in AAUA were struggling under the huge burden of a new tax regime, and there was the immediate need to put in place a palliative measure that led to a temporary reduction, which would also precede a more friendly and sustainable arrangement with the Board of Internal Revenue.
Permit me to also hint that the salary differential between what academic staff members earn in AAUA and other institutions around, both Federal and State owned, for all categories ranges between 30,000 and 100,000. One would, therefore, wonder how AAUA is ahead of other institutions. The claim of the Vice Chancellor cannot but be seen as playing politics with the truth as he is very well aware that several Universities have commenced the implementation of the different categories of Earned Academic Allowance. One would have thought that the University Council and Administration should contemplate something extra to attract and retain academic staff in AAUA, after blazing the trail on the details of the 2009 Agreement rather than struggle to argue that academic staff in AAUA should not expect to be equally remunerated like their colleagues in Federal Universities. One obvious implication of such thinking is that the University is not particularly interested in the best. It is interesting to know that most of the reliable private Universities around simply improved on the provisions of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement in order to attract requisite academic staff.
It is hoped that rather than continue to misinform members of the public, the Vice Chancellor should do the needful so as to arrest the depletion of the academic workforce, most especially people that came into the system as Graduate Assistants/Assistant Lecturers, after earning their PhDs. It will be unnecessary to deny students access to quality teaching as the need to forestall the creation of inferior Universities is very core to the commitments of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Busuyi Mekusi (PhD)
Chairperson
For and on behalf of ASUU-AAUA
