AAUA STRIKE: Hope AAUA won't turn out like LASU?

Recently you all heard of the riot in Lasu because I posted it here on this blog and now the situation has taken another edge. Lasu is set to embark on
another round of strikes.

The lecturers are unhappy over a number of long-standing issues they say the school's administration has failed to address. This was part of decisions reached during the ASUU-LASU congress which was monitored by City Voice during the week.

Now here's the gist, AAUA is experiencing something of such nature. If you've been following my posts, you'd observe two different terrible occurrences in just this week.

The AAUA-ASUU is set to hold a meeting with the VC on Monday which will determine the strike. I pray it goes well, I'll bring you details of the meeting when I have them. Can you predict what will happen on Monday?

Gunshots in AAUA, Two expatriates kidnapped

Better late than never, i've been having connection issues since morning so i could'nt post. well here's the detailed gist.
four gunmen gained access into campus yesterday evening in a  Mercedes Benz Car and started shooting sporadically into the air. The guys attacked the  white-men in charge of the building of the senate building under construction with  Charvet Construction Company in a  Nissan Xterra Jeep and shot   the driver. However the police came to their resuce but they fired and  succeeded in killing a police man and three others injured.

The assailants whisked the expatriates away to an unknown destination after the abandoned their own car and left with the  foreigners jeep though i hear the jeep had been since found.

thats all i know for now, updates  definitely coming soon.

Beyonce to be studied in the University

Queen Bee has joined other celebrities including Oprah and husband Jay Z, (who has a Georgetown University sociology course named after him), who are studied in the University. The course is called Politicizing Beyonce and can be taken at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
The University’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will be exploring the social & cultural significance of the songstress’s music and image.

The course will allow fans to explore Beyonce's alter ego Sasha Fierce, and debate the extent of control she has over her own image. They will also debate whether her red hot persona is an outlet of female sexual empowerment or merely complying with western gender stereotypes.
"This isn’t a course about Beyonce’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.’ Kevin Allred, the person in charge of the course at Rutgers University said

CHIEF SEGUN ODEGBAMI IN AAUA

we had The Great Man in campus today and he spoke on a few things.
THE MATHEMATICIAN as he was known in the 1970s spoke extensively on the importance and power of the gift of a man which also has its root in the Holy bible. He said he is an HND holder and has spoken to a large crowd of Presidents, prof, world leader who has greater qualification because of the gift he has.He has also represent Nigeria in a world chat to host the world cup. Thus he adviced the university community to adhere strickly to their gift as it pays much more than any other thing including education.
The one time footballer, cement distributor, coca cola distributor, dry cleaner, television company co-owner, manufacturer of sporting equipments is currently runing a sport school in Abeokuta.
Furthermore, he pointed out the fact that with education and sport we can totally change the world. He also said people do not need to always be the first in our engagement but all we need do is to be the best version of ourself.
Indeed apart from been a seasoned footballer in his time,Segun is also a motivational speaker.

QUICK STEPS TO IMPROVING YOUR HAND WRITING

MY HANDWRITING is awful — so bad that it’s not so much illegible as unidentifiable. It never bothered me, but I recently attended a creative writing retreat where I wrote some notes by hand. Looking over them now, I can barely read them. It’s rather embarrassing, as well as frustrating, so I decided to look for ways to improve your handwriting. As this article points out, seems I’ve been writing the wrong way my whole life!
Luckily, it is possible to reboot years of misaligned muscle memory and improve your handwriting – you just need time, determination, and the following common sense tips.
1. Decide why you want to improve your handwriting.
You need to know exactly what you hope to achieve, so you know what to focus on. Perhaps (like me) you want to write more legibly, so your notes don’t look like a spider has been dipped in poisonous ink and then violently convulsed itself to death across your page.
Maybe there are a few letters you’ve never really been sure of (that would be you, joined-up s); or you want to impress that sexy graphologist you’re seeing by projecting the wonders of your personality through your loops and whorls.
It might be you want to write more fluently and efficiently, so your hand doesn’t cramp up after five minutes of scribbling; or that you believe it’s easier to manifest the poetic geometry of the universe through an actual pen than a computer keyboard.
There are as many good reasons to improve your handwriting as there are ways to write “spelling” in Old English. Regardless of your reasons, here’s how to do it.
2. Choose your weapon carefully.
English writer Edward Bulwer-Lytton famously wrote that “the pen is mightier than the sword.” Just as you wouldn’t go into battle armed with the rusty paper knife you found down the back of the armchair, you shouldn’t expect to produce beautiful handwriting using a half-chewed Biro encrusted in suspect fluff.
It’s not necessary to buy a gold fountain pen with jewel-studded nib and ink distilled from a virgin squid, unless you happen to be a particularly sophisticated Bond villain. But you should experiment until you find a type of pen (or even pencil) that works for you.
A purist might tell you fountain pens are superior — presumably because it’s so hard to catch enough swans to make quills — but there are plenty of good ballpoints, roller-balls, and even felt tips out there.

How to hold a pen

Hand position: The top of the pen should rest on
or just in front of the base knuckle.
Writing by hand shouldn’t be like a game of Mercy with your pen, so look for one that’s comfortable to hold, and where the ink flows smoothly without your having to push too hard on the paper.
Also, try pens with different sized nibs or balls to find a line thickness that pleases you, and experiment with different colors. But take care — it doesn’t matter how beautiful your script, it will still look horrendous if rendered in a bilious green ink.
3. Get a grip.
Although your pen does have a pointy bit, it’s not actually a mighty sword, so you needn’t hold it like one. Your grip should be light yet supportive, and there should be no undue tension in your hand position. Don’t squeeze — your pen is no more a tube of toothpaste than it is a weapon, and the ink will flow of its own accord.
It doesn’t really matter which fingers you use to hold the pen, as long as it feels comfortable and balanced. But it’s best for the top (the non-business end) to rest on or just in front of the base knuckle of your index finger, rather than in the gully formed between index finger and thumb.

4. Sort your posture.
You need to sit up straight yet relaxed, with your non-writing fingers gently curled under your hand, and your hand position resting lightly on the table. Some people recommend having your writing surface at a 45-degree angle, which could be tricky unless you have a high-tech bat-desk, or are trying to save time by writing directly onto your laptop screen.
Clear some space, because you need room to move your arm when writing properly. You can’t produce elegant, free-flowing script if you’re hunched up over the only corner of your desk not littered with empty coffee cups, half-eaten sandwiches, and rogue power cables. There was a reason people had writing desks back in the days of yore.
Finally, once you have a comfortable writing position, don’t screw it up by altering your alignment. When it becomes awkward to move your hand position down the page to write the next line, try moving the paper up instead of your hand down. Unleashing a typewriter bing is optional.
5. Put your shoulder into it.
writing sample
This is how much my writing sucks.
Having the right pen, correct grip, and good posture is worth nothing if you’re drawing the letters with your fingers. Strange as it sounds, you should not be using your wrist and fingers to write — that leads to cramped, stilted writing, as well as fatigue.
Rather, your fingers should hold the pen in place and act as a guide, and all the movement should come from the shoulder girdle. This is one of the main muscle groups you use to raise your arm and rotate it in a big circle, like Popeye powering up for a thunder punch.
In other words, your shoulder and forearm move as you write, but your wrist and fingers don’t. This helps you write in a more fluid, efficient style. It takes practice, and feels weird at first, but these muscle groups don’t get tired as quickly as your wrist and fingers.
6. Swap your air guitar for an air pen.
To practice using your shoulder muscles to write, hold your arm in front of you, elbow bent, and write big letters in the air. Concentrate on moving from the shoulder and holding your forearm, wrist, and fingers steady. Muscles from your shoulder, arm, chest, and back should be working. These are the muscle groups you want to use when writing with pen and paper.
Once you are comfortable doing this — which mostly means coming to terms with how ridiculous you look — try making smaller and smaller air letters. You can also try tracing the shapes of letters onto a wall with your finger, or writing on a blackboard or whiteboard.
Writing on a vertical surface means you automatically use the correct muscle groups. Resist the temptation to get close and rest your hand on the wall, because this means you are writing with your fingers again.
7. Bust out some shapes.
Once you’re confident with the muscle groups needed to write in thin air, it’s time to fire it up to 11 and break out the pen and paper. This article suggests you start out writing large X’s, /’s, O’s, swirls, and loops. Really concentrate on moving from the shoulder, holding your wrist steady, and using your fingers just as a guide. Focus on producing nice, smooth shapes, and use lined paper to help with consistent size and spacing.
The wrong way to hold a pen
Probably best not to hold your pen with this hand position.
As you get better, make your shapes smaller and smaller. Begin introducing letters — again, start out big and bold, and gradually get smaller. When you’re ready to go crazy, bust out some words, sentences, and even whole paragraphs.
Asking an adult to practice writing big letters might seem as pointless as Mr. Miyagi telling Daniel-san to paint his fence. But you aren’t just learning new muscle memory, you’re trying to unlearn bad habits.
8. Practice whenever you can.
Take every opportunity to write longhand instead of on a keyboard. If you’re a writer, or need to write a report or proposal, consider doing your first draft using pen and paper. You can polish and edit as you type it up. Write out old-skool to-do lists rather than using a computer program. Start maintaining a journal. If you’re stuck in a boring meeting, presentation, or lecture, practice your handwriting strokes instead of doodling whirlwinds and boxes.
Practice your handwriting for a few minutes each day, and you should start to see improvements quite quickly. Try making up motivational sentences that use letters in different ways.

Adekunle Ajasin University Lecturers In Ondo Threaten Boycott, Ask For Removal Of Vice Chancellor Mimiko Over ASUU Assaults

Adekunle Ajasin University Akunga Akoko (AAUA) chapter lecturers are threatening to boycott their academic activities Tuesday, and demanding the Vice Chancellor step down, following an attack earlier this morning on the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Dr. Busuyi Mekusi and members of sister unions.
Dr. Mekusi was beaten and sustained injuries along with union members during a fight provoked by school security, Sheriff Security Outfit.
He and other union members were admitted to a private hospital, and are being discharged when they regain consciousness.
ASUU's Dr. Mekusi and union members from Benue State University and University of Ibadan were attacked when they came for a meeting at the University today. While visitors were assaulted by school security their car tires were also deflated.
Lecturers voted unanimously to boycott their academic activities on Tuesday to register their objection to the assaults, call for the removal of AAUA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, and call for the arrest of the perpetrators of the attack.
Saharareporters learned the VC has been at loggerheads with the institution's union following the almost four month-long nationwide ASUU strike when academic activities were paralyzed.
Since the strike, Professor Mimiko, who is the younger brother of Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has engaged in intimidation threatening to sack union faculty.
ASUU will issue a statement once its members meet.
A request for comment was sent to AAUA public relations and protocol department for comment.

Mom was having sex with male friend while her kids died in hot car

The mother of the two boys who died of hyperthermia has been arrested. Authorities say they found out she was having sex with her boyfriend while the kids were left alone for two hours with the heat on in the car. (The boys and their father pictured above) The story below...
A mother whose children died after she locked them in the car with a heater running, while she had sex in another vehicle, is on trial for homicide.
Prosecutors say Heather Jensen, 25, carried out a "death sentence" against her two young sons when she locked then in the hot car, Fox 31 Denver reports.
The charges against Ms Jensen include criminally negligent homicide, child abuse resulting in death and false reporting. Continue...
"Ms Jensen created the situation that caused her children to die," prosecutor Danielle Lewis said in opening statements.

Her defence says her actions should be assessed with regard to her low IQ, her youth and the fact her husband died six weeks earlier in a car accident.

"It was a tragedy, but it was an accident. It was not a crime," said public defender Elsa Archambault.
Ms Jensen sobbed loudly as her trial opened last week in Mesa County District Court, Colorado.

Ms Jensen’s sons, William, 2, and 4-year-old Tyler, died on November 27, 2012. She told her new live-in boyfriend she was taking the boys to play in the snow and drove them to a snow park, where she met up with a male friend to have sex in the car park.

At first, she left the two boys in the car with the heat on and the doors unlocked.

After about 30 minutes, Tyler opened the door and Ms Jensen returned him to her car, gave him a mobile phone to play with and secured the child locks before returning to her friend.

The children are said to have spent 90 minutes in the car, where an investigation revealed temperatures could have reached 60 degrees Celsius. Both boys died from hyperthermia.

Ms Jensen’s defence attributes her poor decision making to her low IQ of 76, which makes her borderline developmentally disabled.

A boyfriend also told investigating police that Ms Jensen had smoked marijuana the day before the children died.

In the three months leading up to the deaths, she had failed court-ordered drug tests three times, the Daily Sentinel reports. The testing was tied to a March 2012 arrest for domestic violence. Her husband Eric had told police Ms Jensen became violent after he confronted her about spending time with friends who supplied her with painkillers Vicodin and Percocet.

Following the deaths of her sons, Ms Jensen also violated the terms of her probation and left Colorado for Florida, to be with her family.
"I believe it would be a great opportunity for me to start my life over again in Florida, and being surrounded by all my family who loves me to help me get through the losses I’ve had in this past month," Ms Jensen wrote in the letter to a Mesa County judge. "And I would greatly appreciate it if you will let me move on with my life in Florida."

Ms Jensen's request was denied and she was arrested at her mother's home in North Fort Myers, Florida on January 16, 2013.

The jury deciding the case was made up of 10 women and five men, but a judge removed one of the jurors from the trial when he found out she added a witness from the trial as a friend on Facebook, CBS Denver reports. The trial is expected to run for nine days.

Grammy Winners 2014: The Full List

Daft Punk took home the Grammy for Album of the Year, and gave the shortest acceptance speech in history: zero words.
In fact, the electronic duo–decked out in their trademark shiny helmets, this time atop tuxedos–didn’t utter a single syllable despite winning five times at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. They instead farmed out that task out to collaborators including Pharrell Williams, who referred to them fondly as “the robots” and Nile Rodgers, who appeared in the Staples Center’s press room to give a statement on their behalf.
“They’re blown away,” he said. “We are all stunned. We’re happy; none of us can believe this. If, in fact, they do a print thing and say that they had some feeling that we knew [the album] would do this …”
Rodgers trailed off and shook his head, then laughed.
Music’s biggest night lived up to its name, punctuated by performances by the aforementioned robots and another by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis that culminated in an appearance by Madonna–and a mass wedding of 33 couples presided over by Queen Latifah.
The night featured performances by many more of the most talented names in music–and many of the top earners, sometimes one in the same–including a reunion of the last two living Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who played a new song from the former’s latest album.
McCartney popped by the press room afterward with former Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, with whom he shared an award for Best Rock Song for “Cut Me Some Slack.”
He summed up the mood of the night quite aptly: “It was magic for me, playing with these guys.”
